Lyrics: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei OP Super scription of data by Shimamiya Eiko

higurashi-rei-op-back

Finally the opening single I have been waiting for the most has come out! Super scription of data is a brilliant song and the lyrics match so well with Rika’s story that I obviously HAD to transliterate and translate it. I also included two translator’s notes at the end. I can’t wait for the last episode of Rei. Anyway enjoy!

Romaji

Oshiemashou ka?
Sono kawari dare ni mo iwanai yakusoku shite ne
Yubikiri genman Uso Tsuitara hari senbon

Oritatamareta mama Ugomeiteiru monogatari wo
Hirogete misete yo Kako mo mirai mo
Super scription of data

Umarekawaru tabi ni umekomareta
Iro no tsuita KURISUTARU
Sono nanairo Subete Dasorotta toki

Mekurumeku rin’ne ha PURIZUMU no ken de tachikirarete
Kanashimi no kakera ha Mou doko ni mo nai
Super scription of data

Anata ga nozomu kara
Sore ha itsudatte soko ni aru
Anata ga kaeru nara

Super scription of data

Mekurumeku rin’ne ha PURIZUMU no ken de tachikirarete
Kanashimi no kakera ha Mou doko ni mo nai
Super scription of data

English Translation

Shall I tell you?
Promise me you won’t tell anyone else, okay
Let’s pinky promise; if you lie swallow a thousand needles

While it’s still folded up unfold the wriggling story
And show it to me, past and future
Super scription of data

Every time I was reborn
I was buried in tinted crystals
Whenever those seven colors were all present

The blinding cycle of death and rebirth cuts me apart with a prismatic sword
And the “kakera” of sadness is already gone
Super scription of data

Since you desire it
It’s always there
If you can change
Everything will change
Super scription of data

The blinding cycle of death and rebirth cuts me apart with a prismatic sword
And the “kakera” of sadness is already gone
Super scription of data

Translator’s notes:

  • 輪廻 (rin’ne) is literally the Japanese word for samsara, a religious term. I decided to go with “cycle of death and rebirth” rather than “samsara” since Higurashi really doesn’t really have anything to do with Buddhism.
  • 欠片 (Kakera) is literally fragment. Since it is written in the lyrics using katakana (カケラ) and because the term has a special meaning in Higurashi I opted to keep it as “kakera.”

Kanji

教えましょうか?
その代り誰にも言わない約束してね
指切りげんまん 嘘 ついたら針千本

折りたたまれたまま 蠢いている物語を
ひろげてみせてよ 過去も未来も
Super scription of data

生まれ変わるたびに埋め込まれた
色のついたクリスタル
その七色 すべて 出そろった時

めくるめく輪廻は プリズムの剣で断ち切られて
悲しみのカケラは もうどこにも無い
Super scription of data

あなたが望むから
それはいつだってそこにある
あなたが変えるなら
すべてが変わる
Super scription of data

めくるめく輪廻は プリズムの剣で断ち切られて
悲しみのカケラは もうどこにも無い
Super scription of data

Been waiting for this song for well over half a year… I am quite satisfied with it. I like the extended guitar part in the opening as apposed to the short version for the anime

    Thanks for the translation. ♡

While Higurashi doesn’t have anything with Buddhism, do you recall the song samsara? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsSGqy5v6OM

@Keegan: Yeah, I like the guitar at the beginning as well. It sounds really cool and makes a great lead-in to the rest of the song.

@atlantiza: I think I have heard this before but I’m not really that familiar with the sound novel soundtrack with the major exception of “you.”

*sob sob* So addicted it hurts…. In a good way…

Hey mate, thanks for the translation, the only one I could find before this was like, in the anime and the song was TV-sized, so I couldn’t understand the rest. It helped a lot. 😀

Hey, “kakera” isn’t “pieces” in english?

    @Kazuya

You can interpret “kakera” as similar to parallel universe, except that it’s not exactly full parallel universe IIRC. A good name I have seen for it was “shards”.

I know Japanese for heaven’s sake which is why I was able to translate this song in the first place so I know what kakera means (shards, fragments, pieces, insert another synonym here). I wrote out my explanation in the translator’s notes for why I kept it as is since kakera in the context of 07th Expansion’s work has a clear double meaning and is often treated as a proper noun. Higurashi is all about finding the right kakera to create Rika’s perfect world in which her friends don’t die horribly and a good deal of Umineko is about searching the sea of kakera to find pieces for Beatrice’s game board.

Uguuu~ I am so glad you came out with this translation. I remember first hearing even the shortened version and I was in awe because… well, the emotion she puts into the song is amazing, and you almost feel like the guitar is screaming, and once you link that to Rika’s sorrow and all the sadness in the storyline, you have a one-way ticket to sobbing at the computer because it’s all so overwhelming TT^TT
    Thank you so much~ :3

    It was my pleasure.

I love this song so much because of the connection between Rika and her story like you said. I can’t help but cry when watching Higurashi either.

Old post, but I have discord this: “Higurashi really doesn’t really have anything to do with Buddhism.” You are not buddhist, I see. The name of the music is Samsara (duh!). Rika is reincarnation of your grand-…-grandmother. Reincarnation is not a shinto concept, but buddhist (hinduism don’t exist in Japan, so the japanese concept of reincarnation is buddhist.
