Today on the iM@S official site, Bandai-Namco announced that the upcoming Nintendo DS game iDOLM@STER Dearly Stars will go on sale September 17 2009 for 6279 yen, just in time to distract me from school. It will have a CERO rating of C (15 years old+). There doesn’t seem to be any details regarding a special edition of Dearly Stars but surely being from a hit franchise like iM@S is bound to have one and I’ll be enough of a sucker to buy it.

Can’t wait to play it this fall. Definitely planning to choose Mizutani Eri, the blue-haired hikikomori idol, first. By the way she is voiced by Hanazawa Kana AKA Zange-chan (Kannagi).

First of all, I’d like to take this chance to apologize to all the iM@S fans I’ve made fun of in the past, as I’m now very into the games. I’ve been eating crow for months now.

Second of all, why did no one tell me about an upcoming DS iM@S!?

And finally, Eri sounds like DO WANT! But do you have any info on the other new idols?

I meant to tell you about this a while ago but I forgot.

Okay the main idol is Hidaka Ai (the one in the middle) and is voiced by Tomatsu Haruka (Nagi/Kannagi). She is the daughter of a famous former idol but she fails her production test. However Haruka, serving as a judge, sees potential in her and introduces her to the president of 876 Productions.

The third idol is voiced by Sanpei Yuko. Her name is Akizuki Ryo and she Ritsuko’s cousin. Unlike her cousin, she’s calm, cool and collected.

I can see myself liking all of them but I’ll probably play as Ai second.

Tomatsu Haruka has a killer singing voice. I think Ai has become my early favorite on that merit.

This game seems to have a lot of potential to expand iM@S, what with this new cast of idols, a new production company, most likely some new songs, and hopefully some kind of feature(s) that takes advantage of the DS hardware. I’m sure I hardly need to ask that you post more about this game as you learn more.

  1. I’ve always wanted to play iM@S and it’s so great that they’re releasing it for NDS now. I really can’t wait. 8D

Do you think the quality of the game will differ between the NDS and the NDSi though?

From what I know there should be some DSi exclusive features although I don’t know the specifics. My guess is that it will involve the DSi download service for extras like new costumes/songs. If this is the case I may have to get a DSi for Christmas. Otherwise I’ll just stick with my old original DS that I got launch day.

Isn’t the DSi region-protected? Are you going to buy another gaming system from Japan just to play iM@S?

I don’t think I’ll end up getting one but then again I make lots of random obsessive purchases as you know. There’s also a chance that the game itself won’t have DSi region protection in which case the I could just use a US DSi if I wanted to.
