As I mentioned earlier, Kanokon is the second of two anime premiering this season that I intend to keep track of on a week-to-week basis. Kanokon doesn’t have anything close to the deep storyline or explosive popularity of Code Geass… but the ecchi is fantastic. I love ecchi – love love it – and Kanokon promises to be one of the best ecchi series in recent memory.
Kanokon’s first episode is so delicious that I’m tempted to do a retrospective post, but at the end of the day I am still too lazy. So again, a summary of my experience with Kanokon so far:
Honya introduced me to the show on a whim two weeks ago. I think he’d downloaded the first episode just because Mamiko Noto, his favorite seiyuu by a mile, had a big role in the show. Anyway, neither he nor I knew what to expect, and I wasn’t totally paying attention to the show until a scene, some 16 minutes into the episode that was so unbelievably hot that I asked to watch it again. I’d tell you what it was, but I’d much rather you watch it yourself. (And if you have, am I right or am I right?)
Anyway, episode two picks up right where the first one left off. Chizuru, the delicious female series lead who is secretly a fox spirit, is still busy trying to seduce Kouta, the meek shota male lead, for reasons that haven’t totally been explained yet, as her brother (whose name I can’t remember) tries to play a mentor role but would probably rather wash his hands of the whole affair. To kick this one off, Kouta escapes from Chizuru’s aggressive flirting just long enough to meet a new character – Nozomu, whom he immediately senses is another spirit, like Chizuru.
For some reason, I keep thinking of Nozomu as Yuki Nagato ver. 2.0 – they’re so alike in looks and speech – and while she doesn’t beat out Chizuru for me, she should be good enough for everyone who thought Chizuru was too much woman.
The next day on the way to school, Chizuru unveils to Kouta her “warding” ability, which creates a parallel dimension of sorts where she can rape Kouta anywhere, anytime – but her attempt is disrupting in hilarious fashion by Nozomu, who continues to undermine Chizuru at school by launching her own aggressive efforts to win Kouta over. We learn that Nozomu is in fact a wolf spirit, so now Kouta has two beautiful spirit-girls throwing themselves at him for reasons unknown. Lucky kid.
So anyway, in standard ecchi fashion, both Chizuru and Nozomu attempt to rape Kouta pretty much everywhere he goes – in class, in the bath, in the nurse’s office – and get into a bunch of fights in the process, which leads to a whole lot of fanservice and a whole lot of nosebleeds. The word starts getting around that Kouta is some sort of “Erotic King,” which has the whole school in an uproar, and we’re moving towards the brink of some epic supernatural spirit-animal throwdown when the episode ends. I’m expecting to see more of Chizuru’s sexy fox-girl form and another addition to what inevitably will be Kouta’s harem in the next episode – but as plot goes, there’s really not a whole lot else to say. Do you think I’m really watching this for the plot anyway?
Anyway, it’s time for some screencaps – and by that, I mean fanservice.
Oh man, I can’t wait for next week’s episode. The ecchi is only gonna get better, and I’ll get better with screencaps/imageposting as well. Look forward to it!
