After something like over 2 weeks since the release of Firefox 3.6 I finally got around to upgrading. If it weren’t for a friend telling me I wouldn’t have known since Firefox never did notify me that an update was available. Anyway the big thing with this update is the introduction of Personas which are kind of like themes. Of course the first thing I did after the update was to search for some otaku-related ones on the Personas for Firefox site. There are a decent number available but most of them are not that great. I also wish people tagged their personas better so that I can actually search the database easier. Of the ones I stumbled upon I found a dozen decent ones to use.

I can’t believe it’s real but the just like many sites reported the eighth episode of “The Reairing of Suzumiya Haruhi” was in fact Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody marking the official start of the long-anticipated season 2. Like everyone else I’ve been waiting for new episodes every since watching the last episode of the original. In fact I refused to read the novels to keep from spoiling myself. Thinking about it now it seems a little silly especially if we never got any new episodes until 2012 like I have joked about a few times but thankfully I was wrong.

For some reason or another the other day I found myself doing the internet equivalent of window-shopping and once again was entranced by the allure of PVC beauties. I failed to mention it in my Goals for ’09 post but I want to reduce the amount I spend on otaku goods. However any such prospect seems to be slowly fading away so I suppose it’s a “good” thing that I did not make it a solid commitment. So what figures could possibly be responsible for soon making me relapse back into my terrible spending habits?

While everyone is fan-gasming over Newtype’s announcement that the new Haruhi television anime will be airing this April, I find myself writing about something else Haruhi-related which most people have probably never heard of. In fact, I myself did not find out about this so-called Western doujin visual novel Worlds of Haruhi Suzumiya until a few days ago purely by accident when the public demo for the prologue was released.

With the holiday season coming up and the figure companies showing off their newest offerings for next year, now is definitely the time to put down money on preorders – but as excited as I am about all the great new releases, a part of me is in a panic! Although I live above the otaku poverty line, getting my hands on the new figures that I just can’t live without will surely demolish my entire savings. I won’t have any regrets, but I’m going to have to learn to live with the consequences.
Take a look at what I’m ordering this season.

So what’s up with today’s post’s weird title? I felt that the 3 topics that I am about to type up are not large enough by themselves to constitute separate posts. Anyways, the 3 topics for today are Higurashi, Haruhi, and iM@S.

Today was my culture presentation so I decided to do Seifuku (制服) or uniforms, specifically school uniforms. I think I left some parts out and my English failed near the end so I am typing a short synopsis. They were introduced in the late 19th century and based on Meiji military dress which was based on European military uniforms. There are 2 main types: Gakuran (学ラン) for boys and Sailor Fuku (セーラー服) for girls. Gakuran are based on Prussian army uniforms and sailor fuku are based on British naval uniforms because they were the primary military and naval powers at the time. School uniforms are required for middle and high school but not in most elementary schools.
