This is a little later than I normally like to do but I finally got around to compiling my watch list for the upcoming season. There are quite a few shows that I’ll be watching for sure with a few more I’m thinking about which as usual is more positive an outlook than many people I know. A number of shows from past seasons that I have been following are ending or have ended already so my currently watching list ends up more or less the same size. At any rate anything which has started airing already or is an OVA for something I’m already watching has been skipped.
Definitely Watching
Fate/Zero 2 [PV]
Considering the cliffhanger ending of the first half and how enthralling the affair was as a whole I am eagerly awaiting the continuation and conclusion. I suppose the only concern I can think of is that I already know how this war ends but that doesn’t really change the excitement of getting there. I need more Waver-kun and Rider!
Saki: Achiga-hen – Episode of Side-A [PV]
Saki was one of my favorite series of 2009 so it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that its sidestory is also one of my most anticipated series of the upcoming season. The cast may be different but it still retains the Saki-ness even without focusing on the series’ namesake. Having said that it’ll be even more fun once they do meet.
Kore wa Zombie desu ka? OF THE DEAD [PV1] [PV2]
The original series was probably one of the biggest surprises of last year. It took me a couple of episodes to really get into it but soon after I was loving the series more and more each week. Everything is just so silly and absurd that I can’t help but laugh no matter what. It’s not a secret that I love masou shoujo shenanigans to death. Also it has the greatest title of the season.
Haiyoru! Nyaruko-san [PV]
Nyaruko-san is one of my more anticipated spring shows simply because Nyaruani didn’t give a real picture of what the novels are about. Everytime I watched Nyaruani I wanted Nyaruko-san to be animated so I could find out and now I finally got my wish. I really only know the comedy style but you can imagine what strangeness happens when a Lovecraftian entity falls in love with a normal human.
Natsuiro Kiseki [PV1] [PV2]
There isn’t much information to go on beyond the basic premise of a seiyuu music group playing seiyuu in an anime. However being the Sphere fan that I am I can’t help but want this. That’s all I really have to say since I don’t have a very concrete idea of what to expect.
Uchuu Kyoudai [PV]
Considering that I wanted to be an astronaut when I was little and my continued fascination with space this was a no-brainer. The manga is extremely realistic in its depiction of astronaut life and space exploration which really appeals to my scientific side. At the same time it also does a great job developing the sibling bonds and the idea of regrasping lost dreams.
Sankarea [CM]
I wasn’t originally planning to pick up the Sankarea anime but after reading the first volume of the manga I have changed my mind. What initially drew me in was the absurd and dark comedy of chapter 0 but after hitting some serious and twisted plot material I was comepletely sold. I’m starting to imagine how awesome it could be to watch this and Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? OF THE DEAD back-to-back.
Tasogare Otome x Amnesia [PV1] [PV2]
This has a fairly similar atmosphere as Sankarea. The premise is neat and is pretty creepy at times. Some of the few chapters I read felt silly at times in a dark humor kind of way but things are actually hinting at the overarching mystery. Looking forward to seeing more revealed.
Hyouka [PV]
Given that I want to maintain my perfect record for watching all Kyoto Animation anime I’m obligated to watch this. I read the first half of the first novel and to be honest I was not really amazed at least for now. The main mystery doesn’t appear until roughly halfway through the first novel so I can’t speak about that. However the “mysteries” the protagonist solves to establish his deductive skills are unimpressive given how simple the solutions are. The characters haven’t won me over yet either. Perhaps I just need to give this more time to grow on me and show me if this is a serious mystery story rather than a story with mystery as a periphery element.
May Watch
AKB0048 [Sample]
I don’t have a particular attachment nor hate for AKB48. I just never really got into them so my chief interest in this anime is the wacky premise and not the promise of AKB48 members playing the characters or the songs. Given who is making this I can at least be confident that the musical performances will be top notch. Even in the production sample it’s easy to imagine how great the concerts will look. Kawamori has made me realize how much I like mecha fighting with a backdrop of idol singing.
Zetman [PV]
I honestly find it hard to explain my fascination with the series but somehow or another I went through 3 volumes of the manga for reasearch before stopping and still felt like reading more. I don’t even really like the main characters but the time it takes with character background and development make me sympathize with them anyway. Everything is so serious that there is a real sense of weight to what happens and does away with black or white justice. It’s essentially a superhero series without heroics. I guess my main debate is whether I want to watch the anime or just keep reading.
Accel World [PV]
I’m not really familiar with the series but I’ve been interested in the novels for a little while. The PV at least looks cool but it’s not exactly a top priority show for me.
Will Watch Eventually
Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future [PV]
I love Pretty Rhythms combination of dancing, music and magical girl-style special moves a lot. It’s way too cute. However it will be a while until I get around to this since I’m still in the middle of the first series. At this pace I might not even start Dear My Future until it ends. At the same time this follows a new set of girls so maybe I could start this immediately assuming there are no cameos or such.
OVA
Ai Mai! Moe Can Change! [PV]
I don’t even know why I want to watch this. I just do.

Bit surprising you’re listing Hyouka as definite after being thoroughly unimpressed :3
As the local expert, I can say that while Accel World has an interesting world (Kawahara uses the same VR/FullDive world in his LNs) and a great theme, using the old high-school battle-royale stick doesn’t give tremendous point. I will bug you thoroughly to watch Sword Art Online this summer though ^o^

I mean I have to keep my perfect KyoAni record going no matter what.
As for Accel World I’ll probably end up watching it regardless unless I decide it’s too much.
Ummm… WHERE’S KUROKO DAMMIT!?

Too much manly action for my body to handle.
Compared to last year, I think I’m watching about the same amount as last year, although I’m kind of fell meh about this season…
For the shows ‘I’m definitely watching in addition to Mouretsu Pirates, Fate/Zero Part II (obviously since I watched the first half) and Hyouka because I watch anything from Kyoto Animation. I’m trying out Shining Hearts and watching AKB048 for the lols… Not sure how that will turn out since I have no interest in any of the idol groups out there and I’m not sure how they are going to do this considering that idols in a apocalyptic world. Also, Mari Okada is apparently scripting this thing, so I can expect some of her, well… drama.

A lot of times it feels like I’m the only one excited about each new season. I dunno.
As for Okada I guess I like a bunch of the things she has worked on so I guess that’s a plus for AKB0048.
I’m currently watching the AKB0048 Opening 1 its a great anime opening.
