Fall 2012 Anime Watch List

After working on this on and off I’m finally done just before October! This season has a nice number of new anime that have me excited. However just like the past few seasons I’ll be watching several sequels in addition so the total I’ll be following is pretty large. It could have been even larger but I took off all the shows I wasn’t quite certain of so there is no Maybe category this time around. As usual things that have started airing have been skipped. I also seem to have been a little less serious with my opinions so I hope it isn’t too silly. Anyway onto the list!

Definitely Watching

Little Busters! [PV1] [PV] #litbus_anime
It’s quite easy to explain why this is at the very top of my list. I’ve been wishing for this anime for 5 years. In other words I was waiting for Little Busters! since the visual novel came out during the summer of 2007. It also didn’t help that Kanon had also finished that spring with Clannad following in the fall. You can imagine how I reacted when it was first announced. Of course I was disappointed that it was not a Kyoto Animation production. However I’m not going to hate on J.C. Staff. I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt and the PVs give the impression like they’re making a sincere effort to stay true to the original so I’ll trust them until proven otherwise. Still, I’m sad that Mio, my favorite character, along with a few others have had their voices changed. Some of it can’t be helped so I’m not going to stay fixated on it. Now I just need to wait 5 years for a Rewrite anime and infinity for a planetarian movie!

Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! [PV] [News Flash] [Program Publicity] [Lite Episode 1] #chu2koi
Everything I’ve seen about this show is just so funny. I kept rewatching the PVs for it and it looked so amusing. Watching the first mini online episode, things turned out to match my expectations. I just love how silly things are. Rikka is so adorably lame I just want to play along with her delusions. I’ll lose it if the powers turn out to be real.

Robotics;Notes [PV1] [PV2] #robono
Given that I’ve been following this series of works since Chaos;Head I’m looking forward to the next entry. I’ve tried to keep myself partly in the dark so I don’t know what to expect beyond the robotics club and conspiracy thing which should make twists and turns exciting. I wonder if the main character will be like Takumi or Kyouma though lol

Kamisama Hajimemashita [PV1] [PV2] #mikagesha
I’ve had the manga on my radar for a while so when I heard it was getting animated I put the anime on my list as well. I only just started reading the manga but I got so engrossed that I neglected some other series I had to research for this post hilariously enough. It kinda reminds me of a cross between Kamichu and Kaichou wa Maid-sama in a good way.

Shinsekai Yori [PV1] [PV2] [PV3] #新世界より
I tend to like things with dark mysteries and this should provide that plenty. The contrast between before and after the discover the darker sides of the world they live in look intense and I want to see them for myself.

Aikatsu! [PV]
As a self-proclaimed idol fan I have to watch this. What can I say, I’m a sucker for CG dancing or just dancing in anime and games in general. Everything about the show reminds me so much of Pretty Rhythm which is fine by me since I really like that series. Let me indulge my little girl fantasies!

Definitely Watching (Sequel)

Hayate no Gotoku! Can’t Take My Eyes Off You [PV] #hayate_p
Although this doesn’t follow up as a continuation to the previous anime version of Hayate as a longtime fan I am still looking forward to it. With the mangaka working on staff for the production I have expectations for the anime-original story. At any rate I don’t see it being drastically different so at the very least I’ll be okay with it.

Seitokai no Ichizon 2 [PV] #seitokai
Even though I was looking forward to it for a while I watched the first Seizon after its run was over but perhaps that was a good thing. I blitzed through the whole series in a weekend and consequently got Aorii interested as well. Sure, a lot of its humor is referential (not that I mind it) but its characters have their own charm. I’m not quite sure if this is supposed to be a sequel or a remake or what but I just hope it has the same general feeling despite the new staff.

Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb [PV] #hidamarisketch
I obviously haven’t grown tired of wideface yet and I could keep watching it forever. One of the things I’ll be looking out for is more Nazuna and Nori screentime since their senpai still stole the show most of the time. I want to see those two with a bigger role like the original four. I guess the only difference about the experience this time is that I don’t have schoolwork to take a break from.

Bakuman 3
After the events of Bakuman 2 I’m compelled to see how things on various fronts develop from Ashirogi’s new manga to the various romance threads that have woven themselves into the story. I also have to keep supporting Aoki.

To LOVE-Ru Darkness [PV] #toloveru_d
I wanted to type something about not actually liking the series that much but considering how I’ve gone through 46 episodes already…Anyway I’m liking how Darkness will focus more on my favorite characters. I’m not an advocate of harem end or anything but I’m honestly intrigued by Momo’s plan to create a harem for Yuuki (or maybe it’s more accurate to say formalize his harem). I’m so used to messy love polygons and static harems that in a way it’s sorta a fresh idea to me. It also sounds like there will be a bit more action which is cool too. Oh God, I’m being brainwashed into thinking harems are okay.

Busou Shinki [PV] #busoushinki
Ever since I first watched Angelic Layer it’s been my dream for a mini robot figure fighting game to become a reality. As that has yet to pass I’ll settle for shows about it. The Busou Shinki OVA had a simple story but it was enjoyable in a childhood wish fulfillment sort of way. I would get all cutest accessories for my doll!

OVA

Minami-ke Omatase
Even though I was not as enamored by the later entries, the first Minami-ke is one of my favorite comedy anime ever. With that said I didn’t hate the sequels. It’s just that the quality of the jokes did not feel quite as consistent or sometimes the delivery and presentation could have have been better executed. Since Omatase is being animated by feel I wonder how they will compare to the previous two studios.

Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead OVA
I love this anime and its absurd humor to death (lame pun intended). It’s hard to explain but it just fits a certain aspect of my sense of comedy so well that I can help but laugh. Of course the girls are cute too (but Ayumu’s the best).

As a longtime iM@S fan I have to watch this. I doubt I’ll be able to get the corresponding games which unfortunately still means that only the PSP games are the ones I don’t own.

Arata Naru Sekai: Mirai-hen [PV]
I tend to love time travel stories so when I read the premise I knew I would be watching this. The whole traveling into the future to circumvent a time loop sounds interesting. I’m gonna assume someone set up the time loop in order to keep humanity from heading toward its demise. I’m curious if that is the case and just the general mysteries going on.

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia Special #アムネジア
I really enjoyed the last few episodes a lot except for the last few minutes. Although I question the reason for ending the anime in the manner that they did I’ll accept it. I’m okay with more.

Movie

Eiga Smile Precure!: Ehon no Naka wa Minna Chiguhagu! [PV]
Smile is one of my favorite Precure series ever. Every episode is just so entertaining and I’m sure the movie will be the same way. I don’t know how it’ll rank amongst all of the movies but I’ll do my best to cheer the Precure on all the way. My Miracle Light is ready.

Macross FB7: Ginga Rukon – Ore no Uta wo Kike! [PV]
I haven’t watched Macross 7 but from what I know Basara is a pretty cool guy. I just want to see him and Ozma doing bro stuff together. The trailer didn’t really have any new footage featuring Fire Bomber but the Fire Valkyrie CG at the very end has me hopeful that Kawamori is saving something cool as a surprise.

Nerawareta Gakuen [PV1] [PV2] #neragaku
The mind control plot line and the interesting visuals have me interested. Also Mayuyu happens to be voicing one of the characters which I’m looking forward to too.

Mass Effect: Paragon Lost [PV]
Admittedly I’m fairly late to the Mass Effect party. Technically I’ve only watched a friend play most of the first game while I myself have only played the second one. However I am nonetheless invested in the series and am interested in what this will add to the franchise. As this takes place between the second and third games it’ll be nice to watch before (or perhaps after) my proper playthroughs of all the games once I get my hands on a copy of the trilogy box.

Gothicmade: Hana no Utame [PV1] [PV2] [PV3]
What first caught my attention was the weird and unique mecha designs plus the role of the songstresses in this setting. I’m interested in watching this but I don’t have much knowledge about it so I have co clue how high to set my expectations.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 1: Hajimari no Monogatari/Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 2: Eien no Monogatari [PV] #madoka_magica
When I first heard the announcement for the movies I wondered whether or not they would be recaps of the television series. Since that seems to be the case for the first two movies I don’t really have anything to look forward to which is why these are at the very bottom. The third movie which apparently will have new material is a different story however and I’m wondering how that will go.
