Today my Western Digital external hard drive which I affectionately named Shanghai died. She wasn’t the best model when I got her but for almost five years she has served me well. Last night she started making the dreaded click of death but before I could back up my data she failed catastrophically. Luckily most of my data is stored elsewhere but still I lost some of my recent music and anime. I don’t know what I would be doing now had I lost the majority of my music or especially my artwork but in any case I’m just thankful. I had planned on marathoning some anime such as White Album 2nd Season but that has to wait until later. Now the task of trying to repair the damage begins. Technically I still have plenty of space on my other drives but I may eventually get a new one to replace Shanghai purely for backups or possibly for a RAID 1 array. I’d rather not spend more money on unplanned purchases but considering that two died on me recently (Hourai and now Shanghai) I may have no other choice. I’d need another 1TB to feel comfortable or a 2TB for total data backup. I suppose my purchase of “Hina” will come much sooner than later. *sigh*

Merry Christmas from Aya!!
I hope everyone had a good holiday. Today I wanted to do some work on my kinetic novel which is currently going by the working title ATCG and somehow I ended up doing another Christmas drawing this year. This is Aya, one of the main characters in ATCG and also one of my favorites. She is quite smart but often skips school due to severe social anxiety that she developed after being subjected to horrible trauma as a child. She only has one close friend at the beginning of the story but eventually she starts to make more. Because of her habit of ditching school and for other reasons she is referred to as “Hikikomori Princess” by her eventual friend Tsugumi (though they get into a massive fist fight at school and both get suspended before that happens). Aya also has a certain supernatural ability that directly and indirectly effects all parts of the story. I’ll keep it secret for now but I hope I can share it eventually. Now time to get back to work on it.

Taking a Decade Old Anime Otakuness Test
If I didn’t think it looked horribly wordy I would have subtitled this post “Stepping into a past decade before exiting the current one” or something similar. Thanks to Shance I rediscovered the Anime Otaku-ness Test 200, a 200 question assessment of one’s otaku power-level. The test is terribly out-of-date but I think it is a good primer for letting people get to know me a little better. I’ve taken a few of the more interesting questions for me and explained my answers right here. I hope this will be a pleasant insight into who I am.

Kämpfer: Shizuku Made My Day
Yesterday as part of my continuing project to catch up on all the anime I want to watch/have fallen behind on I marathoned the first 11 episodes of Kämpfer. Did I expect to be wowed by superb writing? No. Did I expect to be thoroughly entertained? Yes and I was.

Winter 2010 Anime Outlooks: Finally Time to Watch My Backlog?
Now that the fall season is wrapping up it’s time for my quarterly look at what I’ll be watching in the coming season. Despite how barren a season may look I usually find plenty of shows that I feel have potential. There are a handful of titles that I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy but otherwise winter looks as if I’ll have free time to catch up on my infinite backlog. Time for a look at what I’m actually looking forward to:

Addiction Hits Again: Phantasy Star Zero
Wednesday Citrus and I received the most dangerous thing for us to get during University finals time. What I mean is Phantasy Star Zero. As big fans of Phantasy Star Online we knew that getting its successor in every way possible would result in our “Game Over.” I had planned to refrain from playing until I finished all my exams but it was less than 24 hours before I broke down and plunged in. Soon Citrus discovered and he started playing. Our housemate bought a copy as well and we got others interested further reinforcing our addiction. This is the best worst thing ever.

Bayonetta First Climax Impressions
Today the demo for Platinum Games’ action title Bayonetta was released on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace. I’ve been looking forward to trying out the game for a while especially since when I tried to download the Japanese version of the demo when it came I found out that it was limited to gold members only. After rave reviews such as Famitsu’s perfect score and from various other gaming outlets I knew I had to play right away and downloaded the 769 MB demo from Xbox Live during my lunch break.

Taishou Yakyuu Musume. Hits a Home Run
Despite having a load of free time during Thanksgiving I didn’t really watch much anime even though it is customary for me to marathon a series or two. Strangely that urge to catch up came later than usual after I had already returned to school. Having caught up on Sasameki Koto for my next project I decided I might as well begin Taishou Yakyuu Musume which I never got to over summer. I started a little after midnight Tuesday morning and after a couple of episodes it took all my willpower to force myself to bed. Anxious for more I ate lunch in my room so I could sneak in an episode and watched in between and after classes until I finally finished at about 9:30 PM the same day. Needless to say I absolutely loved the anime and all of its characters.

[Lyrics] Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru Episode 5 Theme Song – Occultics no Majo [Ayumu]
I hope everyone in the US enjoyed this Thanksgiving. Aside from relaxing I decided to translate Umineko’s new theme song today. This one was interesting to work on but I think it turned out well. Right after the translation I added a bunch of translation notes since I noticed a bunch of stuff while working. I hope you enjoy it.
