Following the release of a certain less than satisfying SOUND HOLIC-produced Touhou anime, my expectations for a great Touhou anime shifted back to Maikaze’s much more promising attempt and I am delighted to say that A Summer’s Day Dream lived up to my wishes. High, professional-like production values abound throughout the twenty minute episode and kicks Touhou Project Side Story while its down. Compared to last season’s incredible lineup, this season is looking a little sparse. Many of the new shows premiering in the coming weeks didn’t really catch my interest and those that did are mostly sequels and or OVAs. That isn’t too say there aren’t any gems but I will be playing the waiting game before diving into any new properties. Anyways, onto my watch list.

Instead of the obligatory Merry Christmas post that every other blogger does by posting an anime Christmas picture they found online, I decided to make one from scratch and drew Touhou Project’s Alice and Marisa under a mistletoe held up by Shanghai and Hourai. Alice is saying 「魔理沙ちゃん、キスしてみようか？」 or in English “Marisa-chan, wanna try kissing?” For those not familiar with this Christmas tradition, when two people find themselves under a mistletoe it is customary to kiss each other.
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to line and color it though I do plan on doing that sometime before next Christmas. Maybe I’ll finish it later today though I’ll probably be playing Super Mario Galaxy or drawing that Touhou doujin I am planning to submit for Another Dream, a Western Touhou Doujinshi Circle, instead. The story will focus mainly on Marisa, Alice, Patchy and Nitori though it will have other characters pop in occasionally. It will be a comedy/romance/action and run 10 pages or more depending on material. What I’m getting at is if for some reason you feel inclined to work with me, then please contact me by commenting here.

As the title says, today on the official site along with design sketches for their respective roles, a few more voice actors and actresses were revealed to be involved in the Umineko no Naku Koro ni anime adaptation. Suzumura Kenichi (Ushiromiya George), Kugimiya Rie (Shanon) and Kobayashi Yuu (Kanon) join the the previously announced Ono Daisuke (Ushiromiya Battler), Inoue Marina (Ushiromiya Jessica) and Horie Yui (Ushiromiya Maria) as part of the Umineko cast.

After waiting over a month, I finally I received my plushies. The plushies in question are the Touhou Nuigurumi FumoFumo Reimu and FumoFumo Marisa by Gift. Since I couldn’t find them in stock anywhere and because I was so desperate to get them, I went through Shopping Mall Japan for the first time ever so that I could bid on a pair on Yahoo Auctions Japan. I ended up spending 10,000+ yen on 2 plushies that each cost 2,625 yen originally but they are so worth it.

I haven’t posted on here for a week but I have a good reason sort of; Among other things I have been playing Peach Princess‘s newest translated visual novel Princess Waltz. If I had to summarize Princess Waltz in one sentence it would be a bishoujo version of Fate/stay night’s basic premise coupled with Nanoha-styled fight sequences played out using a card game. With such a strange combination of elements mashed up into one title I pretty much had no choice but to play it.

Maikaze‘s official website for their doujin Touhou anime is finally up. The first episode is entitled Musou Natsu: A Summer Day’s Dream (東方二次創作同人アニメーション 第一話 夢想夏郷 A Summer Day’s Dream). Of greatest interest of course is the small blurb about the story which I have translated below:
Hakurei Shrine’s shrine maiden Hakurei Reimu together with Gensokyo’s ogre Ibuki Suika were beginning to make preparations for a party. However, due to a certain incident that peaceful ordinary day will meet a rapid development. The newspaper reporter who caught wind of this incident Shameimaru Aya for some reason or another will bring the human magician Kirisame Marisa along. Will this story with the involvement of the residents of the Scarlet Devil Mansion move in a surprising direction…?

As I wrote yesterday, I got something else in the mail besides my Little Busters! pillows and that was a beginner’s guide to figure making by Kotobukiya entitled Figure no Tatsujin: Shokyuu-hen (フィギュアの達人 初級編, Figure Expert: Beginner’s Chapter) or How to make Figure if you want to use the slightly Engrishy title. With tips and guidance from some of Kotobukiya’s finest, this guide is designed to have you creating your very own figure from scratch in no time. The nearly one hundred page book is written in Japanese of course but every page is filled with full-color photos and illustrations to accompany the amateur artist during every step of the way.

Today I regrettably move one step closer to actually buying a dakimakura. Instead of spending money on an expensive body pillow and cover, I opted for the more economical and less ronery option of getting cushions. In this case, they are a standard-sized pillow and a miniature one featuring Noumi Kudryavka and Nishizono Mio respectively from Little Busters! I’m quite happy with the print quality and softness of the pillows.

Starting playing a new doujin Touhou shooting game developed by “Hard-cover ha Donki” (ハードカバーは鈍器, Hard-cover is a Blunt Weapon) called Scarlet Meister. Unlike The official Touhou games, Scarlet Meister is a side-scrolling shooter instead of a top-down one. I haven’t really played these types of games too much so I really suck at SM but do enjoy the change of pace.
